Statement Of Intent
1. How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
In my magazine and contents page I intend to use four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning. The media language in my magazine I have used is , long shots and mid shots , this is because my magazine is a women's fashion magazine , therefore need to do long shots to show the model in her full outfit. The mise en scene of one of my magazine front covers is in the street with buildings in the background , this meets the requirements of my chosen brief because it looks like a professional picture of how fashion magazines would look , especially that the model Faith Everett I am using is dressed summery and posey. Whereas , the mise en scene of my other fashion magazine front cover , is my model stood facing the camera against a plain white wall, therefore the mise en scene of my two magazine front covers are different and showing off different fashion styles. The colours of both my magazines are quite bright especially my magazine front cover which is outside and my model is wearing a floral playsuit , as I want to portray the fashion my models are wearing as trendy and eye-catching. I intend to use a serif font in my magazine front cover , including the colours of blue, red and black. The font size is bold and with including serif fonts it makes my magazine look more professional and classy.
The media representations I have used in my magazine front covers and content pages is the media theory of Bell Hooks. This is because I want to portray the women I am using as models as powerful and independent, which is why I have good my models stood upright and often looking away from the camera. I am also representing my models in the way I am , due to me wanting to end sexism and oppression in contemporary society. The media representations I am also trying to portray within my magazines and contents page is that women's bodies shouldn't be represented as objects, therefore to put an end to patriarchal culture and show that women don't need a man to live.
The media industries , I will use is the Bauer logo , and I will be positioning that on both front covers and also using that on my website , to show that, that will be the institution I will be using. Bauer is also a large conglomerate, which means it is a good institution to use for my magazine, as my magazine is likely to be promoted on their website, encouraging institutional synergy. Therefore, more people will be visiting my web page and reading my magazine.
The media audiences I am using in my fashion magazine is girls around the age of 16+ , this is because the target audience of my fashion magazine is females around the age of 16-25. In my magazine I also want to appear to the demographics within the A and B category . Therefore, I have included a range and clothes that are aspirational and not your everyday clothing, however , still designed so they feel stylish and can keep up with the latest trends.
Product 2
In my website , I will also intend to use four areas of medial theoretical framework to communicate meaning. The media language in my website I have used is, mainly mid shots and close up shots. This is because in my website I wanted to portray the natural beauty of my models and you can also still see the clothing my models are wearing. The mise en scene of my website is in the studio against a white background or outside with my model standing against a brick wall. The colours I have included in my website are blue, black and red, along with a white background. I have used these colours in my website, as they are also the main colours I have used in my magazine front cover. In my website the font I have used is serif, as this will make my website look more professional , like Vogue.
The media representations I have used in my website is the media theory of Bell Hooks. This is because I want to portray the models I am using as powerful and strong. Therefore, I will have my models posing independently to show that they don't need a man to control them. Another media representation I am trying to portray within my website is Butlers theory of gender performativity, this theory says gender is created in how we perform our gender roles, therefore if I portray my models to be independent and camera shots such as looking away from the camera, this will eventually make people and my audience change stereotypical gender roles, by the way they are acting.
The media industries, I will use is the Bauer log, which I will be located in the " contact us " bar. From this you can access information about the Bauer company and where about's the company is located. This is a good media industry to use to promote my website, this is because Bauer is a conglomerate and is a well-known company.
The media audiences I am using in my website is girls around the age of 16+ , this is because these ages will fit the age range of my target audience. In my website I also want to appear to the demographic of A and B categories, also within my website I want to portray different ethnicities , therefore I have included both black and white models. I have decided to do this because I want to show that whatever ethnicity or social class, you can still be fashionable and stylish .
2. How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
I intend to link my media products to demonstrate my knowledge of the digital convergence nature of my media production , by having my website placed somewhere on my magazine front cover, this will be placed near the barcode and the price, so my readers will notice I also have a website for my magazine. In my website I will include past editions from the magazines I have created, this means that my audiences can read and access more than one of my magazines when visiting my website. I will also use convergence within my media production, when I have linked articles together, therefore I will include the same of similar articles on my published magazine and website. In my media production to show digital convergence on my website, I will include a tool bar at the top right of my website, where I will include social media links, such as Instagram, Twitter and Google. By including these links to social media on my website, it will get my media products more well known and people will be able to access my magazine and information on all different media platforms, whatever way they would rather view my work, they have a choice. This will hopefully attract more of my target audience, as they can read my magazine in many ways , for example on Instagram or in paper copy.

Content page sketch/draft
NEA - Sketching and product profile
Learning Objectives:
- K: the importance of sketches and planning in the decision making process of creating a magazine.
- U: how to use sketches to influence your stylistic decisions.
- BAT: undertake a creative task in which you start the decision making process in terms of style of your magazine.
Introduction: In this task I will be creating a draft of the layout and features in my contents page , by doing this and creating more than one draft I will be able to come to a conclusion what draft looks best to include in my magazine.
This draft is for my magazine contents page. This is a rough sketch , as it gives me an idea how I would like to layout my contents page. I showed this draft to a couple of people in my class and asked me to give me honest feedback. This really helped as they said I didn't include much content and information and it was mainly a main image taking up all the space. The main feedback I am going to take from this is to use more content and make the image smaller.
This is my second draft for my magazine contents page. Personally , I prefer this draft as I took on my feedback from my peers and included a smaller main image but more content and information around the sides. In my opinion this is the draft I will be using , as I feel myself it looks the most like a content page of a fashion magazine.
Conclusion: From this task and drawing the sketches of the content page it has helped me get a better idea of what I would like to include on my contents page and the layout I would like it to be.

Product Style Profile
NEA - Sketching and product profile
Learning Objectives:

The draft above is for my magazine front cover. This is a rough sketch , so I can get an idea how I want to layout my magazine and where I want certain things placed on the page. I showed this draft to 3 people in my class and the feedback they gave me was very positive. However, They said from my draft the cover looked very crowded and busy , as down the side I had 3 pictures and a text following every picture. The main point I am going to take from this is to use less pictures and concentrate on one main image only.

The picture above is my second draft , here I have included better ideas of what I would like to include and some of the headlines and features I want to say. By doing this second draft it has given me a much better idea on how I am going to layout my magazine cover and the type of things I want to be saying in my headlines.
Conclusion:
- K: the importance of sketches and planning in the decision making process of creating a magazine.
- U: how to use sketches to influence your stylistic decisions.
- BAT: undertake a creative task in which you start the decision making process in terms of style of your magazine.
Introduction: In this task I am going to be designing layouts of my magazine , I will create at least two and get peoples opinion on them. By doing this I will be able to pick the best layout and pictures for my magazine.

Introduction: In this post I will be looking at and studying tow famous photographers and see the type of photography they do , as this will help me create and get ideas for my own images I use for my magazine.
Research two different photographers:
BRUCE WEBER
MARIO TESTINO
Conclusion: From this research I have learnt that many photos from these famous photographers are natural as they are dressed basic and just staring in the camera or looking away. I have also included a fashion photographer which uses colour because in my magazine I will be using colour , but also shots like Mario Testino does.

Post 5 - make the text appealing to an intended audience
Post 5 – How is media theory used in 2 media products and how these make the text appealing to an intended audience?
Introduction: In task 5 I will be learning about how magazine covers are presented and how models pose to get a message across and how there is always a reason behind the pictures.
Male Gaze - women are objectified in the media for the viewing pleasure of hetrosexual men. This is done by the mise en scene of what she's wearing as her boobs are out in a short dress and she's staring into the camera in a sexy way. Also, the text around the image is in Spanish and sounds sexual as its saying about the passion in the bedroom and being naked. This image would make it interesting to an intended audience because men would like how the women is dressed and the way she looks.
Feminist Theory – Bell HooksIn this front cover of the magazine the model is wearing a grey suit this could be linked to the media theory of ending partriachy as she is dressed like a man and men wont see this look as sexy as if she was in a short dress.
Conclusion: From this post I have learnt that there is reasons behind pictures used on vogue magazines and messages behind why they have used that particular image. For example , the women wearing a suit to show she is powerful and men can't control her. This gives me a way to promote Bell Hooks idea and radical feminism by portraying the women I use as feminine and using a radical feminist approach according to Van Zoonen of a text on my front cover saying " who run the world girls".

post 4 - How combinations of media language elements are used to create meaning
Post 4 – How combinations of media language elements are used to create meaning and construct representations that address and appeal to an intended audience?
Introduction: How combinations of media language elements are used to create meaning and construct representations that address and appeal to an intended audience.

The layout of this Elle magazine front cover is neat and professional with a main image and small texts around Rita Ora. The layout is based on one single image surrounded by non - invasive cover line , which means it don't look messy and you can focus on the main image. The typography of the masthead of the magazine is bold , which connotes the title of the magazine , however the little subtitles , the font is swirly in words like " love". The fact that " summer fashion" is in white could suggest new and innocence." Summer fashion" is written in italics and in white which could suggest love is pure. The masthead is pink , which matches in with Rita's skirt and the colour pink is feminine and girly. The coverlines on the front of the magazine are all linking to Rita being in love , for example, " Im in love for the first time" , this could suggest why the main image of Rita she isn't wearing a top and showing off her big cherub tattoo. Furthermore, in the headline " silver sandals" the word silver is in bold and not sandals , which could suggest that silver is more classy and seems expensive , also it could suggest the colour silver is coming into trend this summer. There is only one main image which draws attention to Rita Ora and she is glaring into the camera in a sexy way.
The layout of this Vogue magazine is similar to the Elle magazine , in the fact that it is professional , with a main image of a well known celebrity , Selena Gomez. The layout of this magazine is also based on one single image surrounded by non - invasive coverlines , which means it looks professional. The typography of the title of the magazine if a bold red colour , which connotes the summer as its bright and the background is leaves which links to the summer and tropical. Also , Selena is posing in a floral pink outfit , which could give the target audience fashion advice and tips , and the cover line says " Selena gets real" which shows she's trying to express herself. There is only one main image in the centre of the magazine of Selena posing and her arm above her head looking straight into the camera in a sexy way.
Conclusion: In task 4 I learnt ways in which magazines are set out and how celebrities pose in magazines and subtitles based around the magazine.

Task 3 - intertexuality
Post 3 – How and why is intertextuality employed in 2 media products and what effect does this have in their intended audience?
Introduction: In this post I am going to be learning about how and why intertextuality is employed and the affects it has on the audiences.

This is an example of intertextuality , this is because in the Vogue cover they are linking it to a story/book. Vogue has been inspired for this magazine as the gorilla in the book is carrying the woman and saving her, this suggests vogue have recreated this with a muscly black man to show they can protect and look after the stereotypical white women. Vogue has used to black man, which is presenting the gorilla in the cover, also the gorilla has his mouth open as if he is angry or screaming , vogue has represented this as the black man has his mouth open in the shot as well. As in the cover of the book " destroy this mad brute " the girl is being carried like a princess who is acting as a "damsel in distress" figure. Whereas in the Vogue shot she is smiling and happy with the man near her holding her waist , which could suggest she feels safe and secure around the black man. Intertextuality has been used here as LeBron is rein acting the gorilla , however its been slightly changed to suit the purpose and layout of Vogue. They have also used intertextuality as they have changed the gorilla from holding a bloody bat in the book cover to a basketball in the Vogue cover to suit LeBrons career.
The effect this has on their intended audiences is that audiences may have a negotiated or rejected reading , mainly rejected this is because , it could be seen a racist towards black people as they are portraying the black man as a gorilla. This could also been seen as sexiest as the man is seen to be protecting the women which could show her as weak and the victim.

This is another example of intertextuality as Liam Gallagher is doing a similar pose as the famous David Beckham. The way he is staring into the camera and its a close up shows the intertextuality of the front cover.
The effect this has on their intended audiences is that it has a negotiated reading , as people may have an opinion or argue the views of the two front covers. Women will be more interested in David Beckham , people may read this and reject this due to the front cover of Liam Gallagher and people may not find him as attractive.
Conclusion: In this task of intertextuality I have learnt how magazines copy and use similar covers for an effect , and to show intertextuality.

Task 2
Post 2 – Genre research: How are genre conventions used in 2 media products?
Introduction: In the task I am going to be looking at genre conventions used in two types of media products. I hope to use works such as body language and mise en scene.

Conclusion: From this task I have learnt that different genres have different conventions. I have also learnt that different styles and target audiences magazines use very different pictures and layout their magazines very differently.
