Content page sketch/draft

NEA - Sketching and product profile

Learning Objectives:

  • K: the importance of sketches and planning in the decision making process of creating a magazine.
  • U: how to use sketches to influence your stylistic decisions.
  • BAT: undertake a creative task in which you start the decision making process in terms of style of your magazine.
Introduction: In this task I will be creating a draft of the layout and features in my contents page , by doing this and creating more than one draft I will be able to come to a conclusion what draft looks best to include in my magazine.

This draft is for my magazine contents page. This is a rough sketch , as it gives me an idea how I would like to layout my contents page. I showed this draft to a couple of people in my class and asked me to give me honest feedback. This really helped as they said I didn't include much content and information and it was mainly a main image taking up all the space. The main feedback I am going to take from this is to use more content and make the image smaller.

This is my second draft for my magazine contents page. Personally , I prefer this draft as I took on my feedback from my peers and included a smaller main image but more content and information around the sides. In my opinion this is the draft I will be using , as I feel myself it looks the most like a content page of a fashion magazine.

Conclusion: From this task and drawing the sketches of the content page it has helped me get a better idea of what I would like to include on my contents page and the layout I would like it to be.

Product Style Profile

NEA - Sketching and product profile

Learning Objectives:

  • K: the importance of sketches and planning in the decision making process of creating a magazine.
  • U: how to use sketches to influence your stylistic decisions.
  • BAT: undertake a creative task in which you start the decision making process in terms of style of your magazine.

Introduction: In this task I am going to be designing layouts of my magazine , I will create at least two and get peoples opinion on them. By doing this I will be able to pick the best layout and pictures for my magazine.

The draft above is for my magazine front cover. This is a rough sketch , so I can get an idea how I want to layout my magazine and where I want certain things placed on the page. I showed this draft to 3 people in my class and the feedback they gave me was very positive. However, They said from my draft the cover looked very crowded and busy , as down the side I had 3 pictures and a text following every picture. The main point I am going to take from this is to use less pictures and concentrate on one main image only.

The picture above is my second draft , here I have included better ideas of what I would like to include and some of the headlines and features I want to say. By doing this second draft it has given me a much better idea on how I am going to layout my magazine cover and the type of things I want to be saying in my headlines.

Conclusion:

  • How useful did you find this step in terms of deciding what style you're going to be pursuing?  - I found this task very useful as by creating drafts it gave me ideas and means I had better knowledge of how to design a magazine , so when it comes to creating it I know roughly what I'm doing.
  • How useful was peer feedback to improve your work? - Peer feedback was very useful in improving my work , this is because they gave their honest opinions of what they thought about my draft which helped me improve my layout , this way my target audience will prefer the way my magazine is laid out and read it.

Moodboard

Introduction: In this post I will be creating a mood board of all aspiring images of what I would like to include in my own magazine , his post will give me a better idea of what fashion and looks to include.

NEA - Mood Boards

Learning Objectives:

  • K: the advantages and disadvantages of using a mood board to inspire content of new media product.
  • U: how different types of images and fonts can affect the way audiences consume media texts.
  • BAT: produce a mood board that illustrates your initial ideas for your media product.
  • CO: Use media terminology throughout.

Conclusion: From this task I have gathered better ideas and images of the type of style images I would like to include, and feel these are the best type of images for my style of magazine and target audience.

Questions:
  • How did they helped you define content for your products? - The images helped me define content for my products because I would like to include high end fashion , with black and white pictures like Vogue. I"ll be mainly using close ups and mid shots images.
  • What will be your overall colour scheme of your productions? - My overall colour scheme will be black and white , as I want the cover to be classy and simple looks.
  • What kind of images/shots would you use in your productions? - The kind of images and shots I will be using in my magazine is close up and mids shots , therefore my audience can see the detail within the pictures.
  • What kind of fonts would you use in your productions? - The fonts that I will be including are serif and swirly handwriting style.
  • What kind of mise-en-scene would you use in your productions? - The mise - en - scence I would use in my productions is natural but glam makeup , so it looks professional and not too heavy. Also , the clothing worn will be simple and minimalistic , so the audience can focus on the main piece of clothing I'm advertising.
  • What kind of intertextuality would you use in your productions? - I would link my front cover to the film " Sex in the City " this is because in this film women go shopping all the time and would be able to relate to the film.
  • Which media theory(ies) are you likely to use in your productions? - The media theory I am likely to link to in my production is Bell Hooks , this is because they use the intertexuality to empower women and the images used to show them as strong.

Magazine Findings:

  • What did you find useful about the information collated?  - I have found the information in my findings useful as it has given me a better idea of what people prefer on magazines , therefore I can now include them ideas and features in my own.
  • How are you going to use the information collated to establish/define a target audience for your product? - I will use this information as I have seen what ages most people are therefore can base my target audience around this age and include the fashion and features they like in magazines.
  • What does your audience expect to see in the product you're going to create? - My audience expect to see a black and white front cover with high end fashion.
  • How are you going to use the information collated to come up with designs and house-styles for your product? - According to results in question 4 I should include more mid shots on my front cover and also , according to question 9 I should include more black and white pictures , as this is what my target audience prefer.
Define your audience: My target audience is white females ages 16-25 who are of a middle class and prefer shopping in high end shops.

Conclusion: Overall , at the end of this post I have gathered information and found a better idea of what my target audience prefer , which helps me to know what to include when creating my magazine.

post 7 - different media producers

Post 7 - Producers/Directors Research:

Research 2 different Media Producers/Directors/Photographers (depending on your chosen media brief) and watch some of the products they have made.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:
·       What similarities and differences can you see?
·       What elements of media language are you noticing?
·       Do they have a particular style?
·       Do they only work on particular genres of media?

Introduction: In this post  I will be looking at and studying tow famous photographers and see the type of photography they do , as this will help me create and get ideas for my own images I use for my magazine.

Research two different photographers:

BRUCE WEBER

MARIO TESTINO

Guy Bourdin

Conclusion: From this research I have learnt that many photos from these famous photographers are natural as they are dressed basic and just staring in the camera or looking away. I have also included a fashion photographer which uses colour because in my magazine I will be using colour , but also shots like Mario Testino does.

Bauers mission and aim is to connect audiences with excellent content through our broad multi touch point brand platforms.

How can you incorporate these values/ethos/mission statement into your idea?
I can cooperate these ideas and values of wanting to be a passionate company and connect to my target audience with the range of fashion ideas and information they will be receiving from my magazine.

Conclusion: From task 6 I have learnt how a famous media product " Bauer" present their work and their aims towards their audience. This will help me with creating my magazine.

This is on the closers website, to show that they use Bauer to promote their magazines.

This picture above is a screenshot from the Bauer website, which shows what magazines use Bauer such as Closer , Heat and Bike. In my magazine I will link to other pages like Bauer does , to show my audience the range of variety within my magazine.
